Title: School Bus Driver (15-Passenger)

Status: 13.00 Hourly

Work Year: August-May, 180 days

Work Hours: 4 hrs Monday-Friday; Morning and Afternoon Routes

Reports To: Director of Facilities

Job Summary:

The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting 10-15 students to and from school on a designated route in a 15-passenger vehicle. This role does not require a CDL license but a solid commitment to safety, punctuality, and a positive attitude. The ideal candidate will have excellent driving skills, experience working with children, and a thorough understanding of road safety regulations. The driver is responsible for transporting students to Tri-City Christian Academy and will follow a preplanned route according to a definite schedule.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent
Dedicated Christian role model that upholds the standards of the Seventh-day Adventist Church on and off campus
Valid State of North Carolina driver’s license with a clean driving record
Safety Record that meets the NAD insurance requirements
Experience driving large vehicles is preferred
Ability to manage and interact with children in a positive manner
Strong understanding of road safety and traffic laws
CPR and First Aid certification preferred
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
CDL license a plus
Has the physical health and stamina that a job of this nature requires

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Transportation: Drive a 15-passenger vehicle on morning and afternoon routes, picking up and dropping off students at designated stops. Drives bus safely in accordance with time schedules. Ensures riders collect their personal property when entering and disembarking. Manages route schedule so students are at school by 8:15 am and are loaded on the bus by 3:40 pm.
Safety Compliance: Follow all traffic laws, safety rules and regulations, and school transportation policies to ensure the safety of students and other road users. Conduct established safety and operational inspections of the bus daily.

Cell Phone: Maintains a cell phone for emergency communication. Do not talk or text while driving.
Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine checks on the vehicle, including fuel, oil, and other fluids; report any maintenance or repair needs to the Director of Facilities. Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle.
Student Supervision: Monitor student behavior on the bus, ensuring adherence to safety rules and addressing any issues promptly. Report severe behavior or disciplinary issues to the principal. Oversee the loading and unloading of students and releasing students to authorized parents or individuals.
Emergency Preparedness: Be prepared to handle emergencies and ensure students are familiar with emergency procedures.

Communication: Communicate clearly and openly with the school principal, parents, and students regarding schedules, daily riders, delays, and any incidents.
Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of routes, times, mileage, and any incidents or maintenance needs.
Customer Service: Interact with students and parents courteously and professionally, fostering a positive and safe transportation experience
Related Duties: Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Evaluation:
The Director of Facilities and Administration will conduct performance evaluations twice yearly.
